Laboratory Symposium set for Sept. 29

The 48th annual Laboratory Symposium will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the Hygienic Laboratory in Ankeny, located on the Des Moines Area Community College campus.

The primary audience for this one-day event are those who specialize in assuring the quality of drinking water in municipal water systems and those who manage wastewater treatment systems. These include chemists, laboratory specialists, water and wastewater operators, consultants and other environmental health specialists. All interested parties are welcome to attend.

Presenters include laboratory and water quality experts from Iowa DNR, Muscatine Water Pollution Control Plant, a proficiency testing provider and the Hygienic Laboratory. Featured topics include:

  • Drinking water and wastewater rule updates
  • Nitrate advisories
  • Lab proficiency testing and certification
  • Nutrient demand parameters in the wastewater laboratory
  • Moving, renovating, increasing capacity of laboratories
