Administrative Services Coordinator - Environmental Health Division
Coralville, Iowa Facility


The State Hygienic Laboratory is seeking an Administrative Services Coordinator to support the daily operations of the Environmental Client Services team. This position is responsible for preparing environmental orders, quotes for testing, and answering basic client questions. Work with the Environmental side of the lab to ensure quotes are accurate before sending to the client and ensuring client gets their technical questions answered. Will also assist in Accessioning on a routine basis to help ensure samples are received and ready for the testing area in a timely manner.

Work Location Coralville, Iowa

Work Modality: On-site

Work Schedule: M-F 8AM – 5PM

Newborn Screening, Clinical Lab Analyst
Diagnostic and Clinical Division
Ankeny, Iowa Facility


The State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa’s Environmental and Public Health Laboratory), at the University of Iowa, under contract with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, has two exciting full-time opportunities for newborn screening laboratory analysts in the Ankeny, IA facility. The primary function of the position is to perform biochemical and genetic testing of blood specimens collected from newborns for detection of inherited disorders.

In accordance with CLIA regulations, an official or copy of an official, transcript will be required prior to an offer of employment. (Applicants with degrees from foreign institutions must have the transcripts evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services http://www.naces.org/ and the applicant is responsible for all costs associated with that evaluation).

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am - 5pm with rotating weekends and Holidays

Work Location: Ankeny, Iowa

Research Assistant - Diagnostic and Clinical Division
Coralville, Iowa Facility


The State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa’s Environmental and Public Health Laboratory), at the University of Iowa, under contract with the Iowa Health and Human Services, has an exciting full-time opportunity for a research assistant.

The primary responsibilities of the position are to provide support for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), PCR and other molecular methods development and implementation. Collect and analyze data and perform operational duties associated with the molecular section.

Conducts laboratory testing on clinical and environmental specimens for the purpose of disease diagnosis and treatment or surveillance. Ensures results are accurate and timely and that work is conducted under best laboratory practice and in compliance with CLIA regulations or other regulatory agency requirements as appropriate. Adheres to all laboratory safety and security policies.
