Specimen Type: | Yeast isolate specimen. Sample sources: Biopsy, Blood, Bronchial brushings, Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL)/washings, Cerebrospinal fluid/CSF, Peritoneal fluid, Pleural fluid, Scrapings/clippings, Sputum, Tissue, Urine, Wound, Other. | ||||
Collection Instructions: | Actively growing culture on suitable medium in sealed agar plate or slant. | ||||
Temperature and Stability: | Room Temperature; stable for 48 hours | ||||
Unacceptable Conditions: | Mixed cultures or non-viable organisms. Isolates from environmental sources. An additional processing fee will be billed for all mixed cultures. | ||||
Expected Results: | No fungus isolated, name of fungal organism identified. | ||||
Shipping Instructions | |||||
Wrap specimen container in absorbent material and place inside a biohazard bag. Transport specimen overnight at room temperature. Ship to the Coralville location. | |||||

Most commonly isolated yeast species with pathogenic potential are Candida and Cryptococcus. A processing fee will be billed for all organisms submitted that are not in pure culture, as indicated under Unacceptable Conditions. | |||||
