Health equity, water quality focus of conference

March 30, 2017 --

Healthy equity and water quality are the focus of two upcoming events hosted by the Iowa Public Health Association.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Alonzo Plough will discuss building a culture of health at the April 11 – 12 Iowa Governor’s Conference on Public Health

“Building Health Equity: Where we Work, Live and Play,” is the theme for the Iowa Governor’s Conference on Public Health on April 11 – 12 at the Holiday Inn Des Moines Airport Conference Center. The Governor’s Conference is one of the state’s leading public health forums. In addition to public health, it features topics about environmental health, primary care, health promotion, health education and laboratory sciences. The State Hygienic Laboratory is a sponsor of the conference.

The 2017 keynote speaker, Alonzo Plough, of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), will discuss the foundation’s work to build a culture of health in America. Plough is the RWJF chief science officer and vice president of Research-Evaluation-Learning. His presentation will include the Action Framework developed by the foundation and the RAND Corporation.

The full schedule of events and speakers is available in the event brochure.

A pre-conference workshop on April 10 – Iowa's Water Quality: A Public Health Perspective – will be held at the Airport Conference Center.

This workshop will address water quality issues of interest to public and environmental health officials, laboratory professionals, water utilities and water operators, drinking water and water quality advocates, municipalities, and legislators.

This interactive workshop will include presentations and panel discussions with Q&A sessions.
