Climate change is focus of April 11 meeting The basics of climate change and what it means for the future are among many topics and activities planned for a daylong conference on Saturday, April 11. The Iowa Climate Festival will be held in the University of Iowa Museum of Natural History. It is free and open to the public.

Registration opens for public health conference Registration is open for the 2015 Iowa Governor’s Conference on Public Health, which will be held April 14 and 15 at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Cedar Rapids. The Iowa Public Health Association (IPHA) and the Iowa Environmental Health Association (IEHA) are cosponsoring the event. The Hygienic Laboratory is one of many other sponsors.

Journal publishes study about landfill fire On May 26, 2012, a fire began at the Iowa City Landfill and spread across a drainage layer made from an estimated 1.3 million shredded tires. The landfill liner burned for 18 days, producing a black cloud that could be seen from miles away.
