| By October, the CDC and state public health laboratories had confirmed respiratory illness caused by Enterovirus in a total of 691 people from 46 states and the District of Columbia. Most of the cases were among children and occurred from mid-August to Oct. 10. (The six states highlighted were at the core of the outbreak.) By Dec. 11, the number of confirmed cases had increased to 1,149 people in the entire continental US. |
