Hygienic Lab part of state Ebola response team

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced on Dec. 15 that it is collaborating with the Iowa State Hygienic Lab, three EMS providers and three Iowa hospitals for testing, screening or treatment of an Ebola patient, if required.

Hygienic Lab’s Hochstedler wins STEM Champion award

Beth Hochstedler, director of education, training, and outreach, has won the STEM Champion award at the 7th annual Iowa Women of Innovation ceremony. The award was presented by the Technology Association of Iowa on November 11th in Altoona. The Women of Innovation awards recognize and celebrate Iowa’s extraordinary female leaders in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

Influenza vaccination still advised despite drifts

An influenza virus strain has emerged in the United States that differs from the one health officials predicted would appear during the flu season. Both strains are subtypes of the A(H3N2) virus, but the newer one is not fully covered by this year's influenza vaccination.

Hygienic Lab’s Sherri Marine wins prestigious award

The State Hygienic Lab congratulates Sherri Marine, client services manager, for being awarded the Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award. The award recognizes staff for outstanding accomplishments and contributions that have significantly benefited the University of Iowa, brought honor or recognition to the University, and had a significant positive impact on the state of Iowa.
