Annual Lab Symposium moves to new Center

The State Hygienic Laboratory will hold its 47th annual Laboratory Symposium on Monday, Sept. 8 at its new Center for the Advancement of Laboratory Sciences in Coralville.

The one-day event is organized for laboratory personnel involved in the water and wastewater fields, including sanitarians, chemists, plant operators, consultants and other environmental professionals.

Hygienic Lab personnel and specialists from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will discuss laboratory procedures, regulatory updates, laboratory certification issues, safety and quality control. A case study of a relevant problem will be included, and a roundtable question-and-answer session will allow participants to raise their own problems for discussion.

The Symposium will be one of the first events held in the Hygienic Laboratory’s Center for the Advancement of Laboratory Sciences, located on the lower level of the Lab’s building on the University of Iowa Research Park. The Center includes classroom space, a 150-seat dividable conference center and a learning laboratory for hands-on education. Its grand opening is planned for Sept. 23.

Registration begins Aug. 1. The Laboratory Symposium can be taken for continuing education credits. For more information about the Symposium, contact Brindusa Velica at 515-725-1600.
