Summer line-up includes State Fair and Farm Progress Show

The State Hygienic Laboratory will bring its message about environmental and public health to two quintessential Iowa venues this summer. On Aug 14, the Hygienic Lab will host a booth with interactive games at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. From Aug 26 – 28, the Hygienic Lab staff will participate in the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa.

Is drinking water from well safe after flooding?

When unusually heavy rains cause rivers to rise above flood stage, private well owners may be concerned about the encroachment of floodwaters. Nancy Hall, environmental microbiology manager for the State Hygienic Laboratory, said that those who receive drinking water from private wells should take precautions during flooding to prevent illnesses.
