Summit to focus on disability prevention

Iowans interested in the prevention of disabilities and increasing access to care are invited to a one-day educational meeting on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Courtyard by Marriott in Ankeny. The Disability Policy Summit: Preventing Disabilities and Ensuring Access to Care begins at 8 a.m. and is open to the public.

Presentations included in the free event are “Building Inclusive, Accessible Communities that Foster Independence and Access to Healthcare,” “Supporting Children and Families to Optimize Child Health and Development,” and “Preventing Injuries that Result in Disability.”

The Iowa General Assembly authorized and funded the Prevention of Disabilities Policy Council to conduct a summit to develop a state agenda and provide policy recommendations regarding the prevention of disabilities and their secondary conditions. The summit will bring together representatives from government, the public and private sectors, and consumers to identify priority needs in Iowa and offer consensus policy recommendations.

The Hygienic Laboratory is a sponsor of the event.
