Public health officials investigate possible cyclosporiasis outbreak

The State Hygienic Laboratory is working with the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to determine the source of an outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a rare intestinal illness that has been identified in nine Iowa counties.

CDC recommends hepatitis C testing all baby boomers

Iowa is home to more than 800,000 baby boomers – those Americans born between the years of 1946 and 1964. And, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all “boomers” should be tested for Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), the most common chronic bloodborne infection in the United States.

Lab confirms year's first case of West Nile virus in Linn County

Iowa’s first human case of West Nile virus this year was confirmed in a patient from Linn County, according to a July 3 announcement by the Iowa Department of Public Health. The State Hygienic Laboratory conducted the confirmatory testing.
