The Association of Public Health Laboratories presented its first Silver Award for professional achievement to Michael Wichman, Ph.D., at the group’s annual meeting on June 4. Wichman is associate director of the State Hygienic Laboratory and head of Environmental Health Programs.

The Silver Award is given to an APHL member "who makes or has made significant contributions to the advancement of public health laboratory science and/or practice."

Wichman has worked at the Hygienic Laboratory since 1987 and held several leadership positions within the University of Iowa, the state and the environment health community.
