Laboratory offers new online CLIA compliance courses

The Hygienic Laboratory added two new courses to its Sentinel Lab Training web page to help laboratory staff understand and meet compliance requirements of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).

Federal law requires laboratories and facilities that perform testing of human specimens to obtain a CLIA certificate and to meet certain requirements. “Tools for Proficiency Testing” and “Mission Possible: Understanding Training and Competency Assessment” include detailed explanations of the CLIA regulations with examples of requirements, documentation methods and laboratory forms.

No prior knowledge of the subject is necessary to participate in the free, one-hour courses. They are intended for technical staff, supervisors, managers and laboratory directors in public health and other clinical laboratories who hold, or wish to obtain, CLIA certification.

The courses were written and designed by Jon DeMartino, Hygienic Laboratory writer and creative consultant, in collaboration with Nancy Grove, CLIA compliance manager, and Kristi Rotzoll, CLIA compliance specialist.
