Measuring the effects

The liner system fire at the Iowa City Landfill on Tuesday, May 29, burns an estimated 7.5 acres, the largest fire in Johnson County's history. It is thought to be caused by hot coals that were dumped in the landfill. The fire began on Saturday, May 26, and on June 10 the shallow areas were extinguished with the remaining fire cells covered.
