A variety of
seafoods were tested at the Hygienic Laboratory as part of the Food Emergency
Response Network preparation to test food samples that may have been affected by
the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The spill began in April 2010 and was caused by
the explosion of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf. It was the worst
oil spill in U.S. history.
