UI names Hubbard as Outstanding Staff Award recipient
Hubbard is one of a few aquatic macroinvertebrate taxonomic experts in Iowa, and has worked at the State Hygienic Laboratory for 25 years. His ongoing involvement in bioassessment work resulted in the documentation, for the first time, of 40 aquatic beetles in Iowa and the presence of an additional 171 known to be in the state. Hubbard summarized the project as the sole author in a paper to be published in the Sept. 2017 edition of The Coleopterists Bulletin, a peer-reviewed journal in entomology.
“Todd’s dedication to service within the greater University community and the state of Iowa highlighted his nomination for the award,” said Michael Schueller, assistant director of operations for SHL’s Environment Health Division. “He has given his time to service on the UI Lectures Charter Committee, the Critical Mentoring and Student Support (MASS) Program and Campus Conversation Partners program.
“Todd’s education and outreach service in environmental protection and water quality assessment have reflected very positively on the University’s leading role in education in Iowa and the nation.” A celebration for Outstanding Staff Award recipients will be held on Oct. 10.
