New Science and Conference Center to Open Sept. 23

image of a meeting held in the CALSThe State Hygienic Laboratory will officially open a new center designed for hands-on learning in a laboratory setting. The grand opening of the Center for the Advancement of Laboratory Science will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

The center is the only facility of its kind in Iowa -- and one of the few in the nation -- that combines a functioning laboratory and a conference center for educators, students and other members of the community. It is located in the lower level of the Hygienic Laboratory's Coralville facility at the south eastern corner of Highway 965 and Oakdale Blvd.

"As we move into the next generation of laboratory science, it is important that we continually develop contemporary ways in which we deliver information and share knowledge,” said Hygienic Lab Director Christopher Atchison. “I believe this center promises to do just that for Iowa, and our regional and national partners."

Funding for the center was provided by the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, City of Coralville, the University of Iowa and its Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and the state of Iowa.
